25manna relay
The 25manna Relay is one of the world’s largest orienteering relays, crowning the world’s best orienteering club. This thrilling competition brings together club teams of 25 runners. 25manna attracts around 350 teams and nearly 9,000 athletes participating. Including coaches and supporters, up to 13,000 people visit the event arena, creating an electric atmosphere.
What makes 25manna unique is its diverse team composition, blending elite runners, youth, and veterans into a single team. This unique concept encourages true club spirit. Every runner, regardless of experience, plays a vital role. The competition rules state that each team must include at least nine female and nine male runners, with a minimum of one member aged 16 or younger. Certain legs are reserved for runners under 14 or over 45, ensuring a mix of generations.
The relay features legs ranging from 3 to 9 kilometers. Shorter legs are designed to be accessible for youths aged 10-12, while longer legs challenge runners with advanced orienteering techniques. Since its founding in 1974, the 25manna Relay has evolved from a traditional sequential format, where later runners navigated the course under headlamps in the dark, to a more compact structure: In the 1980s, parallel legs were introduced, with legs three to seven featuring four runners racing simultaneously for each team.
The 25manna association
The 25manna association was formed in cooperation with the Stockholm Orienteering Federation to ensure the event and increase the quality. The event has grown to a level where 600 functionaries are needed at the competition day.
